It Couldn't Wait
04:41
|
|||
It couldn’t wait for me to try and understand
I couldn’t wait to love somebody new
You appeared in the night, you caught me unaware
And all the walls I made, you broke right through
Wish that I could just ask you what you want from me,
I’ve been impatient, but this you knew
Let’s just sit back and have a conversation about it
I want to hear from you what you want to be
You couldn’t wait for me
So, I’ll wait for you
Want to help you find a home
And not hate it when we’re through
I could leave and end up alone,
I could stay and find you gone
Either way, it couldn’t wait
If I got right to the point you’d catch me in a lie
Takes more than that to get the truth out of me
I expect it’ll take more than a lifetime
Because I ain’t got a clue what I want to say
You couldn’t wait for me
So, I’ll wait for you
Want to help you find a home
And not hate it when we’re through
I could leave and end up alone,
I could stay and find you gone
Either way, it couldn’t wait
I could hold you to your word, but I know,
That you don’t always mean all that you say,
I don’t know who to blame for the honesty,
But honestly, it’s all coming out now
You couldn’t wait for me
So, I’ll wait for you
Want to help you find a home
And not hate it when we’re through
I could leave and end up alone,
I could stay and find you gone
Either way, it couldn’t wait
Either way, it couldn’t wait

The Neighborhood
04:46
|
|||
Beautiful day in the neighborhood
You say to me as you smile and walk away
Such a flawless elocution
You must have worked so hard to get that way
You say the funniest things sometimes
You say you just want to see how they’ll react
Think they’re so sensitive nowadays
You know the words you just can’t get them back
Now they’re coming, won’t stop coming,
People talk like they mean nothing now
Maybe it’s because
You always had the upper hand
And now you’re losing face
And there goes the neighborhood
You thought you knew but in your mind
They only serve to want to take you down,
What a lovely imposition
To close my ears and eyes and run away
With you into oblivion
You know the rules, you always knew the game
Now they’re coming, won’t stop coming,
People talk like they mean nothing now
Maybe it’s because
You never learned how to feel
And now your crying out
And there goes the neighborhood
You thought you knew, but in your mind
They only serve to want to take you,
Now they’re coming, won’t stop coming,
People talk like they mean nothing now
Maybe it’s because
You always had the upper hand
And now you’re losing face
And there goes the neighborhood
You thought you knew, but in your mind
They only serve to want to take you
Now they’re coming, won’t stop coming,
People talk like they mean nothing now

Feeling My Youth
03:28
|
|||
Always felt so far from the feeling that I never knew it by name,
Like you’re hoping for a change in emotion, or waiting out a zero-sum game,
When you were young you didn’t know what, but you knew you wanted more
If you took a minute just to slow down baby, you’d learn what it all was for
Because you can’t
Take it all out on yourself
You’re still young, and you don’t understand,
That to grow you need the pain,
In defeat, feed the flame, give away
I was always too green to realize
There’s so much more going on behind those eyes
And now I’m feeling my youth
And I can’t wait to find out
Where it goes
We started off two apart and we grew into our own
Took more than a couple months to see what everyone else had known
Jumped in head first and I knew I’d land right back on my feet
Learned to stay through naivete and learn through all my defeats
That you can’t
Take it all out on yourself
You’re still young, and you don’t understand,
That to grow you need the pain,
In defeat, feed the flame, give away
I was always too green to realize
There’s so much more going on behind those eyes
And now I’m feeling my youth
And I can’t wait to find out
Where it goes
from here,
That’s just the road’s to say
And if it all changes tomorrow
You can’t
Take it all out on yourself
Yeah you’re young, and you don’t understand
That to grow, you need the pain,
In defeat, feed the flame, give way, find out for yourself
I was always too green to realize
There’s so much more going on behind those eyes
And now I’m feeling my youth
And I can’t wait to find out that
I was always too green to realize
There’s so much more going on behind those eyes
And now I’m feeling my youth
And I can’t wait to find out
Where it goes

A Couple Years From Now
03:57
|
|||
Tell me one more time before you go
Is this the right way forward, is this the final show?
Help me down before I play the fool
What, you’ve run the show for years, and now you’re starting to lose your cool?
Where did it go, is this your show?
Do you play it cool, or down-right crazy?
Have you thought about if they are thinking ‘bout you now?
Are they talking about how, a couple years from now,
You’re going to be the one they’re writing songs about?
The road ahead was once too long and narrow
When you didn’t take the risk, you conceded their toll,
Take it all in, they’re all around you now, and now it seems,
You’ve got more friends in places you never dreamed of
So, you might not feel alone, but you’re alone
Do you play it cool, or down-right crazy?
Have you thought about if they are thinking ‘bout you now?
Are they talking about how, a couple years from now,
You’re going to be the one they’re writing songs about?
Have the lights been burning long already
Can you feel your heart race and sweat on skin
Are they thinking about how, a couple years from now
You don’t want to be the one they’re all talking about
Cool, or down-right crazy?
Have you thought about if they are thinking ‘bout you now?
Talking about how, a couple years from now,
You’re going to be the one they’re writing songs about?
You’re going to be the one they’re writing songs about?
You’re the one that they’re writing songs about?
You might not feel alone, but you’re alone

Alone In LA
03:59
|
|||
I’m all alone in Los Angeles
No, Los Angeles is not my home,
I walk around looking for higher meaning,
But I’m afraid I’m deceiving myself, where have I gone wrong.
She came from far away,
Looking for dreams of sun and starlight shining,
Asked it all of a universe, she didn’t understand
But that was forty years ago,
The dream’s not dead but changed a little,
And with a shoulder shrug and a subtle giggle,
She says “what’s there left to say?”
I’m all alone in Los Angeles
No, Los Angeles is not my home,
I walk around looking for higher meaning,
But I’m afraid I’m deceiving myself, where have I go wrong.
You said you were born and raised,
You came up bathed in sun and the smiles so charming,
But you couldn’t wait to leave the place you never understood,
But we could all read your poker face
You’d say “why the hell’d I ever leave that place?”,
And by the time that you come back around, they’d all forget your name,
And, you said you’d get it in in one more shot,
If they ever gave you time in the sun,
And each way you look, someone else getting booked,
And now you’re feeling like you’re coming undone,
Just like you said, “Life comes fast, then you’re dead”
Still there’s no place I’d rather be
Than all Alone in LA
I’m all alone in Los Angeles
No, Los Angeles is not my home,
I walk around looking for higher meaning,
But I’m afraid I’m deceiving myself, where have I go wrong

Your Dream
04:25
|
|||
Winter ended, you were born into troubled times
The world was new for you, you’d soon be searching for your light
Growing pains, they grew away as you tried to find your voice
But in your search for harmony, you had to make another choice
Now you’re grown, fighting the world out on your own
I hate to say that I’m living your dream
Feeling the road beneath my feet
In search of a melody
It’s all in the cards and how they fall
Without them I would not at all
Have the hope or wherewithal
To live that dream and yours
It came to me, a half century further down the line
The contrasts they wouldn’t last, I could only empathize
With the way you felt each day, and the pull between your worlds
The story now became what’s next and not what had been heard
Now I’m grown, finding the world out on my own
I hate to say that I’m living your dream
Feeling the road beneath my feet
In search of a melody
It’s all in the cards and how they fall
Without them I would not at all
Have the hope or wherewithal
To live that dream and yours
And as we keep looking back
At the seasons that have past, I ask
Have I played out of turn?
Have I been using your cards long enough to learn?
Now I’m grown, fighting the world out on my own
I hate to say that I’m living your dream
Feeling the road beneath my feet
In search of a melody
It’s all in the cards and how they fall
Without them I would not at all
Have the hope or wherewithal
To live that dream
It feels like the summers are turning to fall
Faster than I could ever recall
But the light I choose to follow is still the same as yours
